MATCHA, MADE SIMPLE
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to choose, prepare, and enjoy RINSUI matcha with confidence.
1. Quality, Origin & Trust
Matcha is finely milled Japanese green tea made from shade-grown tea leaves.
Unlike steeped tea, where the leaves are removed after brewing, matcha is whisked directly into water and consumed as part of the prepared tea. This gives matcha its distinctive vibrant color, concentrated flavor, and umami.
Yes. Every RINSUI matcha is grown and produced in Japan.
We work with trusted Japanese tea producers who value patience, consistency, and craftsmanship. Each matcha is selected for its flavor, aroma, vibrant green color, balance, and individual character.
RINSUI contains 100% pure Japanese matcha, with no added sugar, artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.
Each RINSUI matcha comes from a Japanese tea-growing region selected for its distinctive character.
Artisanal Blend — Uji, Kyoto
Balanced and approachable, with gentle sweetness, refined umami, and a clean, creamy finish.
Spring Harvest Blend — Miyazaki
Our sweetest and most aromatic expression, made from certified organic first-flush tea leaves with delicate floral character.
Master Collection — Kagoshima
Our richest and most full-bodied expression, made from carefully selected single-origin tea leaves with velvety texture and layered flavor.
Every RINSUI blend is crafted to be exceptionally smooth, balanced, and naturally approachable.
Rather than harsh bitterness, expect gentle sweetness, clean umami, a creamy mouthfeel, and a serene, velvety finish. While each harvest carries its own distinct character, all our blends are crafted for effortless daily enjoyment.
For us, quality begins with the tea itself—authentic Japanese matcha crafted with over a century of heritage and dedication.
RINSUI works with trusted Japanese tea producers whose family craft dates back to 1898 and has spanned five generations. The tea plants are shade-grown before harvest, then the young leaves are harvested, inspected, steamed, dried into tencha, and finely milled.
Each RINSUI matcha is selected for its balance, aroma, color, flavor, and character—so you can taste the difference in every bowl.
Yes. Every RINSUI batch is independently tested for heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial safety. Testing is part of our commitment to knowing what is in every tin and giving you greater confidence in what you prepare each day.
Microbiology and heavy-metals testing was conducted by Eurofins. Pesticide-residue testing was conducted separately by Tsukuba Analysis Center, an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory.
Spring Harvest Blend is also JAS Certified Organic under OMIC Certificate No. 1617. Test reports correspond to the samples and dates identified in each document. For information about an applicable report, contact support@rinsuimatcha.com.
Spring Harvest Blend is JAS Certified Organic.
This certification applies specifically to Spring Harvest Blend and should not be taken to mean that every RINSUI matcha is certified organic.
If organic certification is important to you, Spring Harvest Blend is the matcha we recommend.
Yes. Every RINSUI tin includes a lot number on its label for product identification and traceability.
If you have a question about your matcha or its corresponding batch, contact support@rinsuimatcha.com and include the lot number printed on your tin.
2. Choosing the Right Matcha
Each blend offers a distinct expression of Japanese matcha, from smooth and versatile to sweet and aromatic or rich and deeply layered.
Artisanal Blend: Our most approachable and versatile matcha. Expect gentle sweetness, refined umami, and a clean, creamy finish. A natural starting point for first-time RINSUI customers, everyday usucha, and lattes.
Spring Harvest Blend: Our sweetest and most aromatic expression. Certified organic first-flush tea leaves offer delicate floral aroma, gentle umami, low bitterness, and a clean finish. Especially well suited to drinking with water.
Master Collection: Our richest and most full-bodied expression. Single-origin tea leaves offer velvety texture, natural sweetness, layered flavor, and a smooth, lingering finish. Well suited to experienced matcha drinkers and traditional usucha or koicha preparation.
Each blend is crafted for a different taste preference and preparation style.
Start with Artisanal Blend.
Its smooth, balanced profile makes it an approachable introduction to RINSUI and gives you the flexibility to prepare it traditionally with water or as a latte.
If you already know that you prefer a sweeter, more floral cup—or specifically want certified organic matcha—consider Spring Harvest Blend instead.
We recommend Artisanal Blend for everyday matcha lattes.
Its balanced body and gentle sweetness work comfortably with milk while still allowing the character of the matcha to come through.
For a softer, naturally sweeter profile, try Spring Harvest Blend.
Master Collection can also be prepared with milk, although its layered flavor and velvety texture are best appreciated with water.
All three can be enjoyed as usucha, or thin tea. Choose according to the experience you prefer:
Artisanal Blend for balance and everyday versatility.
Spring Harvest Blend for sweetness, floral aroma, and a softer profile.
Master Collection for greater body, depth, and a lingering finish.
If you want to experience the delicate first-flush character of Spring Harvest Blend most clearly, we recommend preparing it with water.
Choose Master Collection.
Koicha, or thick tea, uses a higher concentration of matcha and less water than usucha. Master Collection’s rich, full-bodied profile, velvety texture, and layered character make it particularly well suited to this traditional preparation.
Start with Spring Harvest Blend.
It is our sweetest and most aromatic matcha, with delicate floral aroma, gentle umami, and low bitterness.
For something more versatile while remaining smooth and balanced, Artisanal Blend is another approachable choice.
Not necessarily. Matcha is better chosen by taste and preparation style than by hierarchy alone.
Someone who drinks a latte every morning may prefer the versatility of Artisanal Blend. Someone drawn to floral aroma and first-flush character may prefer Spring Harvest Blend. An experienced matcha drinker looking for richness and texture may naturally gravitate toward Master Collection.
The best choice is the one that suits the way you enjoy matcha.
3. Preparing & Enjoying Matcha
Sift the matcha, add water below boiling, and whisk briskly in a W motion until smooth and lightly foamed.
Usucha: 2g matcha with about 60ml water at 70–80°C / 158–176°F. Whisk for about 20 seconds.
Matcha latte: Combine 2g of matcha with 30ml of water at 80°C / 176°F. Whisk until smooth, then add approximately 100ml of steamed or iced milk. For a stronger matcha flavor, increase the matcha to 3–4g and adjust to taste.
The preparation video on the FAQ page shows the method step by step.
No—A bamboo whisk, or chasen, is designed for preparing matcha and can create a fine, even foam. But it is not a requirement for enjoying RINSUI.
A small electric frother can also work well, particularly for everyday preparation and lattes.
Whichever method you choose, we recommend sifting the matcha first for a smoother result.
Matcha is an exceptionally fine powder and can naturally form small clumps.
Sifting before adding water helps it disperse more evenly, making it easier to whisk and giving the finished matcha a smoother texture.
It is a small step that makes preparation noticeably easier.
Use water around 70–80°C / 158–176°F rather than boiling water.
If you do not have a thermometer, let freshly boiled water cool briefly before whisking. A lower temperature helps preserve the matcha’s sweetness and umami.
Keep your matcha tightly sealed in a cool, dry, dark place away from heat, light, moisture, and strong odors.
For the best color, aroma, and flavor, enjoy it promptly after opening.
If you refrigerate your matcha, keep the tin sealed and allow it to return to room temperature before opening. This helps reduce condensation from forming inside the tin.
Yes. Traditional tools can make preparation enjoyable and precise, but you do not need a complete matcha set to begin.
At minimum, you need a way to measure the matcha, a cup or bowl, warm water, and something that can disperse the powder thoroughly. A bamboo whisk offers the traditional method, while a small electric frother is a practical alternative.
Good matcha should feel approachable enough to become part of your everyday routine.
Yes. Matcha can be adjusted to suit your preference.
For a stronger latte, increase the matcha from 2g to approximately 3–4g and adjust the milk to taste.
For traditional preparation, the concentration also changes depending on whether you are preparing usucha (thin tea) or koicha (thick tea).
4. Orders, Shipping & Subscriptions
Using 2g of matcha per serving:
40g tin — approximately 20 servings
A good size for exploring a blend for the first time or enjoying matcha occasionally.
100g tin — approximately 50 servings
Well suited to customers who prepare matcha regularly.
The actual number of servings will vary depending on how strongly you prepare your matcha and whether you make usucha, koicha, or lattes.
If you are trying a RINSUI blend for the first time, 40g is a natural place to begin.
If you already know your preferred blend and matcha is part of your regular routine, 100g offers more servings between orders.
Your ideal size ultimately depends on how frequently—and how strongly—you prepare your matcha.
Yes. Standard U.S. shipping is currently free on orders over $45.
Orders below the threshold are charged the available shipping rate shown at checkout.
RINSUI currently ships within the United States only.
Most orders are processed within 1–2 business days, followed by an estimated 4–6 business days in transit for standard shipping.
Carrier delays, holidays, and peak periods can affect delivery times, so these timeframes are estimates rather than guarantees.
Subscribe & Save gives you 10% off recurring deliveries.
Choose a delivery interval from every 2 to every 12 weeks. You can change the frequency, pause, skip, or cancel anytime through the customer portal.
That depends on how much matcha you use.
At a standard 2g serving, a 40g tin provides approximately 20 servings and a 100g tin approximately 50. If you prepare stronger lattes or koicha, you will naturally use your matcha more quickly.
Choose the interval that reflects your routine. You can adjust, pause, or skip deliveries later through your customer portal.
Unopened and unused items in their original packaging may be returned within 30 days.
If your order arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect—or you experience a delivery issue—contact support@rinsuimatcha.com within 7 days with your order number and any relevant photos or tracking details. Our team will review the issue and help with the appropriate next step.
